The first column of page 2 is an interesting report headed "London", reading in part: "A correspondent acquaints us that last night, when the letter which informed the public that provisional articles for a treaty of peace was signed between the commissioners of the king of Great Britain & the commissioners of the United States of America, was read aloud in a large & respectable company, an high mettled genius arose from his seat, threw his pipe rather angrily into the fire, and with great solemnity filled the glass of every gentleman present & then gave the following toast: "Thirteen times thirteen stripes to the King of France, and the ax or the halter to the ministry who occasioned the loss of the American colonies to Great Britain!' and which was unanimously drank with three cheers..." with more (see).
Page 2 also has: "Extract from a Letter dated Dec. 9, 1782" which begins: "The Independence of America (supposing the provisional articles of treaty should be ratified) is established, an event that will forever fill me with amazement. The people of America owe their Independency (whether a blessing or otherwise, time will evince) to the ambition of some individuals who have fought successful battles for them..." with more (see photos).
Page three has an italicized report datelined "New Haven, April 10" reading: "We are informed from good authority that on Sunday last a packet arrived at New York, from England, with the particulars of a General Peace; which, as soon as received, will be immediately laid before the public." being a very early report.
This issue contains other news of the day and a wealth of ads as well with all of page 4 taken up with ads.
Never bound nor trimmed, light damp staining but not deterring readability, and wear at the folds causing a small hole at the fold junction of the front leaf. Complete in 4 pages, 9 1/2 by 14 1/2 inches.
