ST. JAMES'S CHRONICLE OR BRITISH EVENING POST, London, July 28, 1778

* American independence demanded
* Revolutionary War original from enemy

The front page begins with a letter: "...from Lord Viscount HOWE, Commander in Chief of his Majesty's Ships in North America..." to a man on board the ship Eagle in the Delaware. It reports of a mission which destroyed 12 boards in the Hickamanet River in Rhode Island, and also: "...Another Division of boats from the ships of war...were at the same time ordered against, & succeeded, to surprise & take a galley of force which the Rebels had placed in Warren Creek...destroy the saw mills on a creek near Taunton River then in use for preparing materials to build boats..." with more (see).
The back page has a report from New York noting that the: "...commissioners were on their return to England, having received an answer from the Congress: It is reported that this answer is that they will not treat, on any account, till the commissioners bring them over assurances, properly signed, declaring the United States to be independent....".
Four pages, wear at two margins affects some content but none of the mentioned American content.
