March 27, 1863

WESTERN SENTINEL, Winston, North Carolina, March 27, 1863

* Rare Confederate title from the Civil War

This is a very rare title from the Confederacy. According to Brigham only four institutions in the United States have any holdings of this title from the Civil War, most just a few scattered issues. The American Antiquarian Society has no issues recorded from this era.
The ftpg. contains several war related reports including items headed: "Gen. Pemberton Beat" "Van Dorn's Victory in the West" "Tulahoma" "An Incident at the Battle of Murfreesboro" "The Health of Our Armies" and other tidbits.
The war coverage carries over to pgs. 2 and 3 as well with items headed: "The News" "From the 21st N.C. Regiment" "The Rich Man's War and the Poor Man's Fight" "Impressment" "Re-capture of New Orleans" "Late Fight on the Rappahannock" "Mob in Salisbury" and more.
Most of the back page is taken up with advertisements.
Complete in four pages, light water stain in the upper right,  generally very nice condition.
