September 24, 1861
DAVENPORT DAILY GAZETTE, Iowa, Sept. 24, 1861
* First Battle of Lexington, Missouri
* Abraham Lincoln proclamation
The front page has column heads: "THE WAR NEWS" "Col. Mulligan Has Surrendered!" "87 Federals Killed & Wounded" "Rebels' Loss 800" "Fight at Mariatown, Mo." "Important Information Given by a Rebel Deserter".
Much more war news on pg. 1 and 2 with pg. 2 having: "A Proclamation" signed: Abraham Lincoln, calling for a day of public humiliation, prayer & fasting.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, foxing across the ftpg. fold, otherwise very nice.
