June 02, 1792

THE NEW YORK JOURNAL & PATRIOTIC REGISTER, June 2, 1792

* President George Washington
* Act of Congress signed
* Fort Lafayette - Pittsburgh

Page 2 has 1 1/2 columns taken up with: "Law Of The Union - An Act...for Making Provision for the Debt of the United States" which is signed in type: Geo. Washington, President of the United States. Pg. 2 also has an item headed "Pittsburgh" which begins: "The fort begun last winter at this place stands on the Alleghany river within 100 yards of the bank, on a beautiful rising ground, about one quarter of a mile higher up than the old garrison of Fort Pitt..." with more descriptive text. The back page has an ad for "Benjamin Gomez", the first Jewish bookseller in the country (see photo).
Four pages, a few small worm holes in both leaves touching 3 words in the Act of Congress but causing no loss of readability, otherwise very nice condition.
