August 29, 1862

DAILY MISSISSIPPIAN, Jackson, August 29, 1862  Certainly one of the more rare Confederate titles we have offered, in fact I would guess we have not seen more than 4 or 5 in the last 40 years.
This is a single sheet issue with a one column masthead due to shortage of paper, explained on the ftpg. with a note: "...made a trip to the mills in Georgia a week ago for the purpose of superintending the transportation of the paper...cannot be delayed longer than a week...When it arrives we shall resume a full sheet for the Daily...We ask our readers to bear with the Daily half-sheet for only a few more days & we shall endeavor hereafter to keep a good supply of paper ahead...".
Among the reports are: "Disbanding Hunter's Negro Brigade in South Carolina" "McClellan's Last Change of Base" "The Work Goes Bravely on in Virginia: How Stands the Case in the Valley?" "Affairs in New Orleans" "Our Indian Allies" "More About Morgan" "Bull Nelson Retreating to Bowling Green" plus a letter from "Camp Parker, near Vicksburg" and much more.
Complete as a single sheet issue with a one column masthead, old ink subscriber's name at the top has minor loss effecting nothing, nice condition.
