August 28, 1896

LUCIFER, THE LIGHT-BEARER, Chicago, August 28, 1896  A rather unusual title, an explanation of this newspaper's name appears on pg. 2 stating, in part: "The name Lucifer means Light-Bringing or Light-Bearing and the paper that has adopted this name stands For Light against Darkness, For Reason against Superstition, For Science against Tradition...", plus a mention that:  "Lucifer's specialty is Sexology, or Sexological Science, believing this to be the Most Important of all Sciences..."  (see photos).
Has topical reports, commentary and ads. Some of the articles include: "A Woman's Right"; "If It is Healthful, It is Also Moral"; "Woman's Right to Govern Self Does not Include a Right to Govern Others"; and more. Also has an engraving in the masthead.

Complete in four pages, measures 20 by 13 inches, a bit of lite fold foxing on the front page, some small edge tears, but otherwise in good condition.
