March 11, 1815

NILES' WEEKLY REGISTER, Baltimore, March 11, 1815  Nearly half of the front page is taken up with: "Day of Thanksgiving - By the President of the United States of America - A Proclamation" signed in type: James Madison. It was proclaimed, as noted near the beginning: "...to be observed by the people of the United States with religious solemnity as a day of thanksgiving & of devout acknowledgments to Almighty God for his great goodness, manifested in restoring to them the blessing of peace...".
Inside has much on Proceedings of Congress" including a message signed: James Madison, to the Congress. Also mention that: "...passed the bill making further provisions for completing the public buildings at West Point...". Also a report on: "Relations With Algiers" and a lengthy: "List of Acts Passed by the 13th Congress..." which takes over a full page.
There are also over 2 pages of: "War Events" containing much on the latter events of the War of 1812 including a "General Order" signed: D. Parker; "The Constitution" "Capture of the Syren" "Another 'British Official' "
Complete in 16 pages, 6 by 9 1/2 inches, scattered foxing throughout, otherwise in very good condition.

As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
