THE NEW YORK TIMES, Oct. 1, 1938

* Chamberlain's "it is peace for our time"...
* German annexation of Sudetenland begins
* Czechoslovakia
* Nazis - Adolph Hitler

The day prior British Prime Minster Neville Chamberlain gave a speech concerning the Munich Agreement and the Anglo-German Declaration and assured the British people that: "...it is peace for our time". (see text) The front page has a five column headline: "BRITAIN AND GERMANY MAKE ANTI-WAR PACT; HITLER GETS LESS THAN HIS SUDETEN DEMANDS; POLISH ULTIMATUM THREATENS ACTION TODAY" with subheads. (see) Reporting continues inside with three related photos. The phrase is primarily remembered for its ironic value: less than a year after the agreement, following continued aggression from Hitler and his invasion of Poland, Europe was plunged into World War II.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 36 pages, a little margin wear with various small tape mends, generally good.
