March 18, 1933

THE NEW YORK TIMES, March 18, 1933

* Persecution by the Nazis

Near the bottom of the front page is a two column heading: "Nazis Raid Home of Lion Feuchtwanger; Seize Manuscript of His Novel on Hitler" (see)
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 30 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.

wikipedia notes: In 1933, while Feuchtwanger was on tour, his house was ransacked by government agents who stole or destroyed many items from his extensive library, including invaluable manuscripts of some of his projected works.
