NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Philadelphia, July 5, 1848

After several years of prosecuting the Mexican War, it finally came to an end, notice of which is found on page 2 headed: "Proclamation of Peace--By the President of the United States of America" with the text of his Proclamation, followed by his signature in type: James K. Polk (see). Immediately preceding this report is a brief article with small head: "The Treaty" announcing its approval by Mexico & the President (see).
Further into the issue are several reports on the closing events of the war, headed: "The Mexican War" with subheads: "Change of Command" "From the Army" "Last General Orders" & "Battle of Santa Cruz de Rosales" taking over 2 pages.
Complete in 16 pages, 8 3/4 by 11 3/4 inches, very nice, clean condition.

This  newspaper began in 1811 and was a prime source for national political news of the first half of the 19th century. As noted in Wikipedia, this title: "...(was) one of the most widely-circulated magazines in the United States...Devoted primarily to politics...considered an important source for the history of the period."
