THE NEW-YORK TIMES, May 15, 1865  

* Confederate President Jefferson Davis caught
* Mention of him wearing women's clothes
* Abraham Lincoln murder trial


At the top of the first column on the front page are headlines reporting the surprise capture of Jefferson Davis, the former President of the defunct Confederate States of America. The reporting begins with an announcement from the Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton, which states: "The following dispatch, just received...announces the surprise and capture of Jefferson Davis, and his staff...", signed in type: Edwin M. Stanton. Hereafter is a dispatch from General Wilson beginning: "I have the honor to report at daylight of the 10th inst., Col. Pritchard, commanding the Fourth Michigan Cavalry, captured Jeff. Davis, and family....Col. Pritchard surprised their camp at Irwinsvilles, in Irwin County, Ga....", signed in type: J. H. Wilson. There is also an official report from Col. Pritchard with details about the capture, plus two related reports from General Wilson. Headlines on this event includes: "DAVIS TAKEN !" "His Wife, Sister and Brother Secured" "Davis's Camp Surprised at Daylight..." "Cowardly Behavior of the Head of the Southern Chivalry" "He Puts on His Wife's Petticoats..." and more.
The ftpg. also has heads on the: "Trial Of The Assassins" of Lincoln, including: "Particular Description of the Several Prisoners" "Testimony Taken During the First Day" & much more, with great verbatim reporting taking half of the front page  & most of page 8.
