NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Baltimore, Maryland, December 24, 1842 The bottom of the back page has a brief & inconspicuous report headed: "Electro Magnetic Telegraph" which includes: * ...states that S. F. B. Morse, of New York, is now exhibiting to committees appointed by congress to examine the subject, his invention by which two persons, however distant, may converse with each other. There is every probability that he will be afforded the means of fully testing its practicability. It would be a wonderful improvement indeed, if effected..."
And what an understatement that was. This was the beginning of distant communication which continues to evolve to this day.
