LA DEFAITE..., Paris, France, Sept. 7, 1635  (dated at the bottom of the back page)

* Earliest of newspapers to be had

This issue predates the earliest English language newspaper we have in our inventory by nearly 25 years. This is an "extra" issue which published simultaneously along with the "GAZETTE" of Paris, the very first regular newspaper published in France which started just 4 years previous in 1631 by Théophraste Renaudot but with influential backing by the powerful Cardinal de Richelieu. This "extra" edition has a heading translating to: "Defeat of the Spanish Cavalry..."
This small-size issue of 4 pages, 6 1/4 by 8 3/4 in. All text is in French. An opportunity for not only a rare extra edition focused on this military battle, but one which predates anything of the like in most other European countries. In excellent condition.
