November 15, 1791

THE WORLD, London, Nov. 15, 1791  The top of page 3 has: "Boxing" beginning: "Mendoza, who with his brother, & Lee, are now instructing the Bucks of Norwich in the pugilistic science..." which includes a letter from Daniel Mendoza to Mr. Ward, signed in type: D. Mendoza.
Mendoza is the famed Jewish boxer who transformed the English stereotype of a Jew from a weak, defenseless person into someone deserving of respect. He is said to have been the first Jew to talk to the King, George III (see hyperlink).
