The front page has a nice banner headline: "FORTAS CHIEF JUSTICE; And a Texan Named to Court Vacancy" with subhead and small photo. (see) First report coverage on Lydon Johnson nominating Abe Fortas for Chief Justice of the United States.
Also included on the front page are two side-by-side photos - one of the famous raising of the flag on Iwo Jima, and the other of the Japanese raising their flag on Iwo Jima with the caption: "JAPAN'S RISING SUN BLOWS IN IWO JIMA BREEZE."
