THE NEW YORK TIMES, September 17, 1929  Page three carries a column-wide headline "ARAB RAIDS TONIGHT FEARED IN PALESTINE" with subheads "Many Christians in Jerusalem Put Crosses on Houses to Protect Them" "16 Moslems Die in Clash" " "Also Police Search Teiba, 18 Miles From Capital, for Loot Taken In Riots" "44 Jews Jailed At Acre" and more. "A new sensation was caused here today by reports that 1,000 Bedouins from neighboring regions were planning to raid the country tomorrow night, attacking every Jewish house...". This was following the Hebron massacre which occurred a few weeks earlier.
