February 13, 1817

NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Feb. 13, 1817  A very notable issue as page 2 has the official report announcing James Monroe has won the Presidential election. Under n engraving of a heraldic eagle is: "According to the provision of the constitution, the votes given by the Electors for President and Vice-President were yesterday counted out...and it was officially proclaimed by the President of the Senate, that JAMES MONROE is elected President of the United States, and that DANIEL D. TOMKINS is elected Rice-President thereof, for four years from and after the 4th of March next."
Page 3 has two Acts of Congress, each signed in type by: James Madison.
Terrific to have this report in this Washington, D.C. newspaper, the foremost newspaper of the nation's capital at the time.
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, very nice condition.
