September 29, 1863

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Sept. 29, 1863

* Battle of Blountville - Bristol
* Sullivan County, Tennessee

A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy. Most of the front page is taken up with a very lengthy & detailed account of the skirmish at Bristol, Tennessee, with heads: "The Raid Upon Bristol--Destruction of Government Stores--Supineness of the Confederate Military Authorities" . The front page also has: "From the Army of General Lee" "Yankee Deserters" "Another condemned" and more.
The editorial on the back page begins: "A battle on the Rapidan is not the necessary sequel of conflict on the Chickamauga. Meade is one of those leaders who risk nothing. He has gained a reputation above his merit by the affair of Gettysburg; and will not lose it if caution can preserve his laurel...". Also: "The Treatment of Negro Soldiers" and "Panic in Richmond" plus more.
A single sheet issue with a full banner masthead, very nice, clean condition.
