Item # 629793

November 19, 1785

PENNSYLVANIA PACKET & DAILY ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, Nov. 19, 1785

* John Paul Jones

The front page features 20 illustrated ship ads. Page 3 has a brief item with a rare mention of John Paul Jones from after the Revolutionary War in a letter from a member of Congress at New York: "...a war being declared against us by Algiers, is, I believe, too well founded & renders it necessary that our merchants should be apprised of it & be on their guard. This day Congress had a letter from Paul Jones, dated at l'Orient, the 6th of August last, confirming the above account...".
The back page has a nice illustrated ad for a "Hat Manufacturer" which shows the classic tricorne (three corner) hat of the colonial period (see hyperlink).
Four pages, very nice condition.
