The sports page has a very notable report on the legendary Jim Thorpe, with a two column head: "Thorpe Hailed As Greatest Player On Gridiron in Past Fifty Years" and also: "Carlisle Indian First in Mid-Century Poll With 170 Votes--Red Grange Next With 138 as Nagurski Gets 38 for Third". Included as well is a photo captioned: "Jim Thorpe with Carlisle Indian School Team forty years ago." and headed: "Picked As Football Star of Half-Century" (see).
Also very notable on the following sports page is a near banner head: "Yanks Sign DiMaggio; Robinson Accepts Dodgers' Terms" including column heads: "Clipper's Pay Put At $100,000 Again" DiMaggio Said to Have Signed for Same Salary He Drew From Yanks in 1949" and also: "Robinson Up to $35,000" "Negro Infielder Receives Top Contract at Rickey Regime for a Dodger Player". Included is good text, as well as photos showing Joe DiMaggio signing his new contract, and also a p photo of Jackie Robins with Branch Rickey. Also a nice side-bar article: "Ruth Total Still Highest" "He Drew $840,000 in 15 Years as a Yankee Player"
