Page 2 has "Alabama Rioters Won't Scare Negro Co-Ed, Her Attorney Says", which tells of the demonstrations at the University of Alabama as Autherine Lucy prepares to become the first African American to attend classes at the university (see images). With the Montgomery, Alabama rioting and boycott as the backdrop, along with the demonstrations protesting her enrollment at the forefront, Autherine makes it clear she will attend (the following day) while her attorney states: "I assume she will be given adequate police protection." Follow-up coverage of the bombings and unrest in Montgomery, Alabama appears on the front page, along with other labor-related items throughout. An historic issue!
The issue is complete in 8 pages, is detached at the left spine with no loss, and has a few minor edge tears, but is quite nice.
Note: The Daily Worker was a newspaper published in New York City by the Communist Party USA - the publication ending in the mid 1950's.
