SAGINAW NEWS - EXTRA, Saginaw, Michigan, May 7, 1945
* Germany surrenders
* Official announcement awaited
While the three-line, full-banner headline is certainly dramatic: "GERMAN FORCES GIVE UP: ANNOUNCEMENT DELAYED BY ALLIED HEADQUARTERS", with subhead: "Victory News Broadcast By Official U.S. Station", one might certainly have hoped for a little editorial latitude in the presentation, as most newspapers of the day focused on the end of the war being declared as opposed to the "delay". However, the full-truth certainly makes this issue stand out as being different than most. Other news includes: "Surrender Scene -- Eisenhower's HQ, Little Red School", "German Chief Of Staff Acts For Fallen Nation", and "Victory Climaxes Three-Year Push", with a photo of General Eisenhower. The backpage has a series of photos depicting the chronology of the War with Germany.
The issue appears to be complete in 10 pages, has multiple edge tears, a few archival mends, and a degree of wear - all of which seem to add to the feel of the news (see images).
