MORNING CHRONICLE & LONDON ADVERTISER, England, July 13, 1779  Page 2 is mostly taken up with: "American News" on the Revolutionary War with talk of: "...back parts of Pennsylvania...increasing distress of the inhabitants...had abandoned their dwellings...The town of Carlisle...is filled with these fugitives...Northumberland is covered with Indians in such a manner that except Fort Muncey...no other place or refuge is found but at Sunbury...". Another item mentions: "...from New Jersey...we are informed that Mr. Washington still continued at Middle-brook...sent a detachment from his army...to speculate on the operations of the British troops upon the banks of the Hudson."  Also: "...it appears very certain that the rebels in general are heartily tired of the ruinous war they have brought upon themselves, yet still have ...some flattering hopes of a reconciliation with Great Britain & that too upon the idea of their independence." "...that Mr. Gates, with a body of 4000 rebels, was at Providence...". "...informing that a battle had been fought in the suburbs of Charlestown [Charleston] in which the Rebels were defeated & that the British troops had taken possession of the town..." and so much more.
