The front page has a series of reports headed: "ARIZONA" "The U.S. Troops Fight the Hostile at Dragoon Mountain" "Several Soldiers and Indians Killed--A Chief's Daughter Taken Prisoner" and more. (see) The report mentions in part: "...A Tombstone dispatch says two men who came in from the Mary mine, on the summit of the Dragoon mountains, about sixteen miles northeast of Tombstone, report a battle being fought...but could not see that either side was getting the better of the other...Some of the soldiers & Indians were mounted. A courier has been sent to the mining and hay camps east of Tombstone to notify the men of danger. Mayor Clum and Chief of Police Carp (sic) are now raising a company of men to go and intercept the Indians if they go south...". Nice to have on the front page here.
It is very rare to find mention of the Earps in period newspapers, particularly outside of reports concerning the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral, which incidentally happened less than 3 weeks after this date. The presumption is that this is reference to Virgil Earp, who was City Marshall at this time, although the article aludes to the "Chief of Police". And the mentioned John Clum, mayor of Tombstone, was also publisher of the famous newspaper "Tombstone Epitaph"
Other news of the day with several interesting advertisements. Complete in 4 pages, larger size issue measuring 30 x 25 inches, a little margin wear with a few small tears, generally in good condition.
