The top of the front page has an historic report headed: "Congressional Diary" with a subhead: "Missouri Bill" noting: "A message was received from the House that they concurred with the Senate in the amendments to the bill to admit Missouri into the Union", followed by: "Maine Bill" noting: "A Verbal alteration was made in the bill to admit Maine into the Union necessary to confirm to the existing state of things." Further down the ftpg. are details of this historic event, known now as the "Missouri Compromise", headed: "Missouri Bill" which begins: "A message from the Senate announced that they had passed the Missouri bill, after inserting in lieu of the Slavery Restriction clause, ak clause to exclude slavery from all the Territory of the United States west of the Mississippi, North of 36 degrees 30' N. latitude, except within the proposed state of Missouri..." with much more on the discussion and the vote.
The top of page 2, headed with an engraving of a heraldic eagle, is: "An ACT for the Admission of the State of Maine into the Union" signed in type by the President: James Monroe, which was a result off the Missouri Compromise
Great and very historic content to have on the front page. Four pages, bit of foxing, very nice condition.
