LOUISVILLE DAILY COURIER, Kentucky, Sept. 13, 1861 Louisville is difficult to categorize as Union or Confederate during the Civil War as there were factions within the city supporting both. To placate both sides the two leading newspapers took their stands: the "Courier" was very much pro-Confederate & the "Journal" was pro-Union.
Pages 3 & 4 have some nice war heads including: "The Great War" "Ft. Lafayette Prisoners" "Another Big Battle" "Confederate Loss Not Ascertained!" "Col. Lowe Killed" "Affairs in Missouri" "Gen. Floyd's Position" "Freedom of Slaves to be Proclaimed!" and more (see). Also in the issue: "The Forward Movement in Western Virginia" "Disarming the People of the State" "Is Kentucky Corrupted?" "...Northern Troops Burning Kentucky Bridges--Destroying Houses--Confiscating Property" and much more.
Four pages which is archivally rejoined at the spine with very minimal loss to pgs. 2 & 3 text & ads near the top, light damp staining at the edges, otherwise good.
