July 26, 1866

NEW YORK TIMES, July 26, 1866

* Grade of General of the Army created : Grant suggested
* Farragut to be Admiral of the Navy

Among the front page first column headlines are: "WASHINGTON NEWS" "The Bill Creating the Grade of General Signed by the President" "Lieut-Gen. Grant Nominated to the Place" "Vice-Admiral Farragut Nominated Admiral" and more.
The report in column two is rather brief yet significant, with a mini-head: "The New Grades in the Army and Navy" reading: "The President has also signed the bill reviving the grade of General in the army of the United States and this afternoon nominated to the Senate Lieut.-Gen. Grant for that office, and Vice-Admiral Farragut to be Admiral in the navy, under a recent law." (see).
Eight pages, never bound nor trimmed (desired), some wear at the folds & edges, some light browning.

A significant report in military history.
