THE NEW YORK TIMES, July 2, 1940

* German occupation of the Channel Islands (1st report)
* Island of Guernsey - English Channel

The front page has a one column heading: "NAZI FORCES TAKE THE CHANNEL ISLES" with subhead. (see) Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.

wikipedia notes: The Channel Islands were occupied by Nazi Germany for most of the Second World War, from 30 June 1940 until their liberation on 9 May 1945. The Bailiwick of Jersey and Bailiwick of Guernsey are two British Crown dependencies in the English Channel, near the coast of Normandy. The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Empire to be invaded and occupied by German forces during the war.

Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 44 pages, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
