July 03, 1869

Here is a bound volume of the first illustrated newspaper in the world, THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, England, containing all 26 weekly issues for January 4 to June 27, 1868.

An absolute treasure-trove of terrific prints with the contents of this volume being in much better condition than most. Having been a dealer in this (and other) titles for over 39 years we have handled hundreds of these bound volumes. The internal pages and prints in this volume are among the best we have seen.

Mentions are only some of the highlights, and the photos are just a sampling of those within this volume, there being simply too many to photograph all.

There is a very large number of prints on the "Expedition to Abyssinia" and other prints on Abyssinia. Some of the other prints include: "Winter Sports In Canada" showing moose hunting; "The Central Pacific Railway, North America" includes a view of Donner Lake; "...Starting for a Kangaroo Hunt...Lake Albert, South Australia"; "The Bay of Samana, St. Domingo, Lately Purchased by the United States"; three pages of: "Prince Alfred In Australia"; fullpg. of: "The Great Fire at Chicago" has two prints; "The Inland Sea Of Japan"; centerfold: "Hobart Town, the Capital of Tasmania"; centerfold with 2 prints of the harbor of Sydney, Australia;  two prints of the silver mines in Mexico; halfpg: "Queen Emma of the Sandwich Islands Leaving...Honolulu Harbour" (Hawaii); text only on: "President Johnson's Acquittal"; "The Royal Party at Ascot Races" and so much more.

The two color prints called for are lacking.

Contains 644 pages, both front and back boards are lacking as is the leather spine. All issues are still bound together but the issues can be easily disbound for individual issue sale.
