July 04, 1929

THE NEW YORK TIMES, July 4, 1929

* Roaring Twenties financial prosperity
* Pre stock market crash record highs

Near the bottom of the front page is a two column heading that reads: "Stocks Set Records as Money Drops to 6%; Heavy Profit-Taking Interrupts Advance" (see) This financial bliss would come to a disastrous end a few months later. I suspect this is one of the few publications to report this being from the city where Wall Street is located.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 32 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. A few binding slits along the spine, very nice condition.
