May 28, 1860

NEW YORK TIMES, May 28, 1860

* Ratifying Abraham Lincoln as the candidate for President

The front page has some nice, detailed coverage of the Republican meeting at Philadelphia, with one column heads including:
"The Opening Skirmishes of the Campaign" "Views of Republican Leaders" "What Gen. Cameron Says of the Nominations" and more (see photos).
The report has near the beginning: "The following resolutions were offered by Geo. A Coffey, and were adopted: the people of Philadelphia, in town meeting assembled, do hereby resolve as follows: 1) We cordially accept and ratify the action of the Chicago Convention in nominating for President and Vice President of the United States Hon. Abram Lincoln of Illinois, and Hon. Hannibal Hamlin, of Maine..." with much more concerning the nomination (see). Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Note they refer to him as "Abram" rather than Abraham. With his lack of national notoriety at this point this was a common mistake.
Eight pages, excellent condition.
