Page 17 has a brief, discrete but historic announcement in early film history. A small one column heading reads: "'Wizard of Oz' Set for Capital Aug. 17" with text beginning: "Metro's Technicolor production of "The Wizard of Oz" will have its premiere on Aug. 17 at the Capital Theatre. Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland will appear...." Was this the first mention of this famous film in the famed Times newspaper. It would make its debut in Hollywood on August 15th.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 42 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
