August 30, 1814

THE WAR, New York, Aug. 30, 1814

* Battle of Lundy's Lane - Bridgewater
* Burning of Washington (capture)

The entire front page, and part of pg. 2, are taken up with: "Gen. Brown's Official Account of the Battle of Bridgewater", signed in type: Jacob Brown. Other notable content inside includes; "Gallant Exploit" "From Missouri Territory" "Defeat of the British at Fort Erie" "Death of Major Morgan" "Report of Major Morgan" "Official from General Gaines" and more.
Very significant is the back page report headed: "Capture of Washington City" which also includes "The Battle" and "Latest Intelligence". Great and very timely report of this major event o the War of 1812. Of special interest is a note, written in period hand, penned in the margin "The whole of the interesting circumstances are false."
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, very nice, clean condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
