August 24, 1814

THE WAR, New York, Aug. 23, 1814

* Siege of Fort Erie - Ontario
* Stonington, Connecticut

The entire front page is taken up with: "From Canada - British Official Account of the Battle at Bridgewater" which includes a "General Order" signed by: Edw. Baynes. Other details as well.
Inside has; "First Attack at Stonington" which takes over half a page; "Capture of a British Barge" "A Proclamation" signed by: James Madison in which he calls for an extraordinary session of Congress. Also: "GLORIOUS VICTORY!!" concerning the British attack on Fort Erie, followed by a letter from Buffalo. Also: "Another Brilliant Victory!!!" at Lake Champlain (see).
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, very nice, clean condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
