Much war news is an exclusively War of 1812 newspaper...

Item # 626760

July 19, 1814

THE WAR, New York, July 19, 1814  The ftpg. has articles headed: "New Requisition" "Burning of the Shipping at Wareham" and "Army Court Martial". Articles on pgs. 2, 3 & 4 are headed: "Tribute to Merit" "Fort Erie Captured" "Battle of Chippewa" "From Chesapeake Bay" "Madison's Island" which is a "Declaration" of Capt. David Porter, signed by him in type (see); also: "Naval Forces on Lake Ontario" "Marine Memoranda" "Porter's Official Letter" and "Loss of the U.S. Schooner Alligator". This issue is simply filled with War of 1812 news!
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, very nice, clean condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.

Item from Catalog 263 (released for October, 2017)...
