Reporting the War of 1812...

Item # 626758

June 21, 1814

THE WAR, New York, June 21, 1814

* Printed exclusively to report on the War of 1812

Among the items in this issue are: "Copy of a Letter from Com. Chauncey to the Secretary of the Navy" with a Sacket's Harbor dateline & signed by him in type from aboard the U.S. ship Superior; a letter from Capt. Warrington to the Secretary of the Navy aboard the Peacock, which actually is an exchange of several letters. Also: "Brilliant Affair" concerning Capt. Allen in capturing a barge at Dyer's Bay; "From Boston Bay" & more. The back page has: "From Chesapeake Bay" " & other War of 1812 reports.
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, bit of spotting, nice condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
