Sachsenhausen Nazi concentration camp...
Item # 626416
September 30, 1939
THE NEW YORK TIMES, September 30, 1939
* Sachsenhausen concentration camp opens
* Oranienburg, Germany political prisoners
Page 6 has small, somewhat discrete one column headings: "Jewish Camp Set Up" "Germany Establishes Polish Center at Sachsenhausen" (see) Early report on the famous concentration camp just after the beginning of World War II. This item is being listed to show these camps really did exist. I suspect this is one of the few publications to report this particular event as other titles in our inventory do not.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day with much on the early stages of World War II. Complete in 34 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
