THE WAR, New York, Oct. 31, 1812

* Battle of Queenston Heights
* War of 1812 - 1st major battle

The ftpg. has a letter from R.J. Meigs datelined at Urbana; a letter from Major Jessup & James Taylor datelined at Chilicothe, Ohio; "Commendable Justice in the Enemy" and more.
Inside has almost a full page on the: "Battle of Queenston" fought in present-day Ontario. This was the first major battle of the War of 1812 & was a victory for the British. Also: "War Events at Black-Rock" "Attack on Fort Belle Vue" "From Detroit" & more.
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, very nice, clean condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
