GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, June, 1786 One of the two plates includes an image of a: "'curious iceboat" which has some text on the facing page. Above this text is some on a land-boat used for traveling in the desert, etc.
Near the back is a bit of: "American Intelligence" which reports of a treaty between the United States and the Cherokee Indians, and also warning: "...to look out after a party of Indians who call themselves Cherokees, but had positively refused to make peace, and had actually gone out to war." (see)
Included are both plates called for, one of which is a foldout which has prints of the "sufferings of Job".
Complete in 88 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate, very nice, clean condition.
A very nice magazine from the "mother country" not long after the end of the Revolutionary War. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
