CONNECTICUT JOURNAL & NEW HAVEN POST-BOY, Dec. 17, 1773

* America tea troubles
* Day after Boston Tea Party
* Pre Revolutionary War

This issue was printed the day after the Boston Tea Party, just 137 miles away. The entire front page is taken up with the continued article: "Some Observations Upon the Slavery of Negroes, continued...". The middle of page 2 has a brief yet notable report: "It is reported that the American Colonies are expected soon to enter into a general association not to import any Tea from England, till they have obtained the redress of certain grievances which they now complain of."
Also inside: "...from the interior part of North America, beyond the Ohio, informs us of a nation of Jews being discovered among the Indians who call themselves the tribe of Naphthali. The religious worship  their tenets correspond with those in Europe..." and a bit more. Also a report of an encounter with Indians and a bit more on the tea situation with an item from Charleston: "The tea affair makes a great noise here, but nothing is yet done: it will be prevented landing, without doubt." Another item notes: "...letter from Boston...our brethren there had some fears that we should receive the India Company's detestable TEA; but we think it may be safely affirmed that it will not be suffered to be sold here; and that if landed, which is scarce possible, it will be reshipp'd on board the Liberty & sent to Gaspee the first favourable wind and weather."
Great to have this tea content in a newspaper printed the day after the Boston Tea Party. Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, handsome engraving in the masthead, nice condition.
