January 6, 1863
CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, South Carolina, Jan. 6, 1863
* Abraham Lincoln
* Emancipation Proclamation
* Battle of Murfreesboro - Tennessee
Of note is the report of the Emancipation Proclamation on the front page, being more of a second-hand commentary than the full-text report found in Northern newspapers. It is headed: "Another Proclamation From Lincoln..." and includes: "Lincoln has issued another proclamation, declared...that all persons held as slaves in designated states and parts of states are, henceforward shall be free.." with just a bit more (see).
Also on the ftpg: "From Petersburg" "Northern Accounts" "The Battle of Murfreesboro" "The Monitor Foundered off Hatteras & Gone Down!" "From Chattanooga--Official From General Bragg--Latest Reports from the Front". The bkpg. has: "Official
Report of the Fight in North Carolina" "Victory at Murfreesboro Complete!" The City of Charleston" "Gen. Butler's Parting Address to His Troops" and more.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, good condition.
