An 8 year-old boy sold into slavery... The Amistad...

Item # 625185

October 9, 1839

VERMONT CHRONICLE, Windsor, Oct. 9, 1839

* La Amistad slave ship case
* Sidney O. Francis kidnapping

Page 3 has a report concerning the Amistad slave ship, beginning: "The case of the Amistad & the probable fate of the African captives which she brought to our shores, yet engage the attention of the whole press..." & a bit more. This concerns the very historic "Amistad" case which ended up with a landmark decision by the Supreme Court in 1842. The Amistad case began with a rebellion of slaves on board the Spanish schooner of this name in 1839. It was also the subject of a 1997 film of the same name by Stephen Spielberg.
Perhaps more noteworthy is a fascinating report headed: "Extraordinary Abduction" concerning the selling of an 8 year old boy from Worcester, Mass., into slavery (see). Much is online concerning this case, this hyperlink being just one report.
Four pages, archivally rejoined at the spine, close-trimmed at left edge of pg. 2 causes some loss but not to either mentioned report, some tape mends to pg. 2.
