THE NEW YORK TIMES, December 8, 1937

* Ted Williams acquired by the Boston Red Sox
* Very early mention prior to his MLB baseball debut

This newspaper has a very discrete but extremely early report on page 35 on the Boston Red Sox acquiring a young 19 year old by the name of Ted Williams. At the bottom of page 35 is a very small one column heading: "Red Sox Buy Ted Williams"
The brief text mentions that this young star may be a 2nd Joe DiMaggio. Rare to have such a early report on this famous baseball player as his Major League debut would not be for another year and a half.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 52 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
