GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, November, 1764 Among the articles within are: "Some Account of George Psalmanazar, who pretended to be a Native of Formosa & published a Fabulous Account of that Island..." which takes over 5 pages. Also: "Description of a Remarkable Fish" which includes a full page plate of it as well (see); "Rules for Writing & Speaking Correctly" "State of the Controversy between Mr. Gataker and Mr. Guy Concerning the Cure of Cancers". There is a foldout plate which accompanies: "Description of the Seed Box in Mr. Tull's Drill Plow" (see) measuring 8 by 10 inches; "Extract from a Journal Written by Mr. John Bartram of his Travels into Carolina" "Observations on Vipers" and more.Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" containing various news reports of the day.
The back page is a full page chart of: "Each Day's Price of Stocks in November, 1764".
Both plates called for are present and noted above.
Complete in 48 pages, 5 by 8 1/4 inches, several small binding holes along the left spine, some scattered lite foxing, otherwise in very good condition. Includes the full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate.
A very nice magazine from just after the French & Indian War from the "mother country". This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
