NILES' NATIONAL REGISTER, Washington City, February 17, 1838  Among the various reports in this famous newspaper is a back page item which notes: "The legislators of the state of Tennessee adjourned on Monday...The Bill to suppress the sale and use of bowie knives deserves to be reckoned among the most salutary acts passed by the ...assembly...Its provisions will effectually stay the use & sale of one of the most bloody instruments of death known to the present age & every friend of humanity & good order must rejoice..." and a bit more (see).
A great wealth of other interesting articles in this issue including: "Death of Osceola" "Florida--Official. Camp Pierce, on Indian River", lengthy reporting from Congress, "Osage Indians" and more.
Complete in 16 pages, measures 8 1/2 by 12 inches, in very nice condition.
