Among the front page one column Civil War reports are: "The War in the Southwest" "Department of The Gulf" "Progress of the Political Canvass in Louisiana" "Operations for the Blockading Squadron Off Mobile". Also on the front page is: "A Proclamation" signed in type by the President: Abraham Lincoln, concerning the opening of the port of Brownsville, Texas, to commercial traffic.
