THE LADY'S MAGAZINE, London, August, 1775  As the title would suggest, this magazine is focused on women's concerns, but near the back the "Home News" has news from the Revolutionary War in America, including the very historic: "By the King, A Proclamation, For Suppressing Rebellion and Sedition" which was the King's response to the so-called Olive Branch Petition, sent to the king by the Second Continental Congress on July 8, 1775. King George III rejects the idea of reconciliation and declares the colonies to be in open rebellion. This was essentially England's declaration of war against the American colonies.
Elsewhere is: "A Proclamation" by Guy Carleton, governor at Quebec, plus news items from Williamsburg, Watertown, New York, Quebec, and Philadelphia, the latter noting: "The grand congress in this city are making every necessary preparation to act with vigour..." (see).
Included are two plates, one of a: "Likeness of Miss Jane Butterfield" and the other a foldout "New Song set to Music by Mr. Hudson"
Complete in 56 pages, 5 by 8 inches, full title/contents page, lacking any plates called for, some light foxing, generally nice condition.
