THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, England, July, 1751  The first article, taking two pages, is: "A short Account of the Island of Minorca...". The following page has a print of: "...a Gaulish woman's head-dress..." (see photos).
This issue features a large & very nice foldout plate of various bridges including the very famous "Ponte Rialto" in Venice (see photos). The plate measures 8 by 18 inches and is in nice condition. There is a related article on the noted bridges as well.
Other items in this issue include: "Account of some Famous Alchymists" "Cancer Cured by the Phytolacca" "False Translation of Scripture--Hebrew Points" and various poems.
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which has various news reports from throughout Europe.
Complete in 48 pages with full title/index page which contains an engraving of St. John's Gate, 5 x 8 inches, in good condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
