THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, April, 1763  Included within this issue are: "Extract from the Journal of an Officer at the Havannah, containing some Interesting Particulars of the Siege..." which is concerning Havana, Cuba & takes over two pages. Also: "Account of a Work Relating to Unborn Children" "Description of Paintings in Herculaneum" "Account of Revolutions in the East Indies" "Account of the taking of Manila" which takes over 4 pages; "Plan of Crowland Bridge" which includes a diagram of it (see photos); "A Scheme to Prevent Smuggling"  and more. There is also a full page plate headed: "Machine for Rowing of Barges Against Stream" (see photos).
Near the back is the "Historical Chronicle" which contains the latest news reports of the day, most of which is European.
The other full page plate present is: "Representation of a Sea Horse" (see photos). This has only one of the two plates called for. Complete in 54 pages, 5 by 8 1/4 inches with a full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate. Very nice condition.
A very nice pre-Revolutionary War era magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
